"I bring in every little damn thing on the street. I like that process of a thing discarded and then intercepted. Then I do something on it and then it goes into a fine collector’s home, probably. Once again, it’s cherished."
—Barry McGee

On the eve of the ICA/Boston stop of his mid-career survey, our current 100 Artists featured artist is Barry McGee. The artist is seen here at work both in his San Francisco studio and at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

This scene, filmed in 2000, is featured in the Art in the Twenty-First Century Season 1 episode, Place (2001). A new film featuring the artist—from our Exclusive series—will premiere tomorrow (Friday, April 5) on Art21.org.
